Replacing an Aqua One 104s Black Sponge
The 104s Sponge is an essential part of your aquarium set up and if you're serious about water quality in your EcoStyle 32 and EcoStyle 37 aquarium, then the Aqua one 104c carbon cartridge is a must. It works in two ways: by trapping the finest particles of fish waste and aquarium debris and secondly, the high quality carbon granules clarify and purify your aquarium water. Generally it's best to replace the the 104C cartridge with a new one every 4 to 6 weeks as the effectiveness of the activated carbon becomes depleted.
Aquarium Maintenance Made Easy...
The 104c cartridge itself is however quite a clever little thing designed with complex aims and objectives in mind. The top sponge layer is carefully manufactured to be a specific density, ideal to trap a month's worth of solids yet not impede water flow. The carbon granules are enclosed within the 104C Cartridge and provide an essential roll in removing toxins from your water, both purifying and clarifying.
Beneficial Bacteria
The Aqua One 104c carbon cartridges are not designed to grow the beneficial bacteria as with other filtration elements in your EcoStyle Aquarium, rather the 104c is around to remove harmful solids and excess chemical waste from your aquarium.
104c cartridges don't always last the full six weeks in between changes and it's worth checking on their performance once per week. Check that the 104C cartridge hasn't become clogged. If so, don't attempt to wash the cartridge under the tap, it has been used up - change it.
Change every six weeks
While the 104c carbon cartridge needs changing every six weeks, other filtration elements in your EcoStyle aquarium are much longer lasting, such as the 104S Sponge Foam Cartridge (usually 12 months) and the filter pump impeller. In any event, we recommend checking your filter sponges and cartridges once a week, rinsing the sponge cartridge in a little aquarium water and also checking your filter pump impeller hasn't become blocked or clogged with aquarium waste. As ever, a little maintenance often is key.
