The polymers the foam is made from are very durable in water so why change the pads at all? Sadly, over time, the open cell structure of the foam begins to break down and compress, water flow is reduced, less bacteria are cultured and the pads need cleaning more often. So, we suggest that you play it safe and change the foam pads in your Aqua One Canister filters, one at a time every six months or so to maintain performance.
